Backup & Restore Data

It is recommended that you frequently backup your data to deal with unfortunate events such as broken or stolen handhelds or when changing devices. Backing up is easy. On the home page, open the menu by pressing the 'menu' button on the top right and select "Backup Data" This will create a new backup folder named "AviMan" in the root directory of your SD Card or phone storage. If the backup folder already exists it will be updated. Copy this folder to your PC for safekeeping.

In order to restore saved data, copy the backed up "AviMan" folder to the root folder of your SD card and select "Restore Data from SD" Your data in the backup will be restored.

If you are using Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or above and facing problems in backing up the database please check that you have allowed the necessary permissions. Go to Settings > Apps > Aviman > Permissions and make sure that the Storage permission is turned On.

Privacy

AviiMan stores data locally on your device and not in a database on the net. Your data remains on your device and there is no way for any body (including the developers) to see it unless you explicitly share it on social media.
AviMan may need access to your address book when entering sales or purchase data. If you sell/buy a bird from someone who is already in your address book you can import this info into AviMan without needing to re-enter it.

Bird & Pair Lists

The List Screen is your home screen in AviMan. Clicking on the home button will bring you back to this screen. This screen has two drop-down boxes at the top. The first allows you to select the species and the second lets you select the type of items you want listed. For example you may select Cockatiel as the species and Breeder as the bird status to list all cockatiels with their status set to breeder. You may also list pairs in your aviary by selecting Pairs: Current or Pairs: Past in the second drop-down box. Selecting any item in the list will take you to the details page of that bird or pair.
You may search for a bird using the search button at the top. Enter any part of the name or band number and click search to see the list of results.
The menu in the top right corner allows you to

  • Edit app settings
  • Backup Data
  • Purchase AviMan Upgrades
  • Display these Help pages

Navigation Menu

The first screen you see in AviMan is the Navigation menu drawer. This menu contains shortcuts to the most common tasks in AviMan. You may add birds, setup pairs, add clutches, view list of eggs due to hatch, check list of birds in the nursery, create invoices, view recent invoices etc.

You may open or close this drawer by tapping on the three horizontal lines at the top or by swiping horizontally on the screen.

Egg Status

You can set the following status for each egg when editing clutches in AviMan

Unknown
This is the default status for an egg that has just been laid or one that you have no further information about. You should change the status to one of the following when you know more about the egg. You will receive hatch notifications about eggs that still have the unknown status on due date.

Developing
The egg is fertile and developing normally. You will receive notifications for these eggs.

Hatched
Setting the egg status to hatched creates a new bird in your app. You will be presented with an option to specify the actual hatch date and set the birds name.

Broken
The egg cracked or was eaten in the nest. The egg may or may not have been fertile.

Clear
The egg is infertile as determined by candling or other means. You will not receive notifications for these eggs.

Dead in Shell
The egg developed before the chick died inside the shell and development stopped. You will not receive notifications for these eggs.

Thrown Out
The egg was thrown out by the birds. It may or may not have been fertile. You will not receive notifications for these eggs.

Bird Status

Bird Status in AviMan is used to categorize the current role of a particular bird in your aviary. Allowed values are listed below along with a brief description.

Breeder
The bird is part of your breeding program. It may or may not be set up for breeding at the moment. When you set up a pair in AviMan, only birds with this status will be available for pairing.

Future Breeder
These are young birds being retained and raised as future breeders. They are too young to be paired at the moment. When these birds mature you should change the status to breeder.

Nursery
These are chicks being raised by parents in the nest or being hand raised in the nursery. New chicks are automatically assigned this status. Once the birds are weaned you should change the status to future breeder, for sale, sold etc.

For Sale
These are birds that are meant for sale. When creating invoices only birds with this status will be shown.

Sold
These birds have been sold. Creating an invoice automatically sets the birds status to 'Sold'

Dead
The bird is dead. When setting this status you should also set the date bird died and specify a reason.

Lost
The bird flew away, was stolen or is unaccounted for. When setting this status you should also set the date lost and specify a reason.

Other
This is a wild card status for your own use such as birds on loan, injured birds, etc.
